FISHERMAN'S CAMP, NAIVASHA, KENYA - A PERFECT & INEXPENSIVE HOME-FROM-HOME BASE FOR AFRICAN WILDLIFE VIEWING
Fisherman's Camp is located on Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley, approximately 60 miles north of Nairobi. There's a wealth of bird-life on the lake, (plus hippo!), and nearby Hell's Gate National Park, famous for it's towering cliffs, spectacular scenery and geothermals, harnessed to provide the Rift Valley's electricity. Also close-by is the extinct volcano, Mount Longonot, Green Crater Lake, a privately-owned game-sanctuary with inexpensive public access, and "Elsamere", the former home of Joy Adamson, open daily to the public for visits and afternoon tea. Lake Nakuru National Park, renown for it's vast flocks of greater and lesser pink flamingo, is an hour's drive away, while Lake Bogoria National Reserve, Amboseli National Park, the Masai Mara National Reserve, (famous for it's wildebeest migration from July to September), and Samburu National Reserve, are all within a reasonable traveling distance. Fisherman's Camp extends from the grassy, acacia-shaded shoreline, to the top of the hill 100 meters above the lake. The bottom camp is primarily for campers and back-packers, while the bandas on the top camp offer a tranquil retreat with superlative views. There's also a restaurant/bar down by the lakeshore, which is open all day for a range of inexpensive home-cooked meals.
TIGERLAND RESORT, KANHA TIGER RESERVE, MADHYA PRADESH, INDIA. WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE PREMIER TIGER RESERVE AND THE BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD TO SEE WILD TIGERS!
Tigerland Resort is located in the buffer-zone of Kanha Tiger Reserve, the main entrance to the Reserve being just a short drive away. The resort is privately owned and family-run, managed by one of the world's foremost authorities on Indian wildlife, Denzil Stephens, and staffed by local people from nearby Mocha village. It's small and intimate; your accommodation is a brick-built chalet with it's own toilet and shower, and a verandah where you can relax, read and take drinks, between game-drives. Food at the resort is freshly cooked using produce obtained from the local markets, and whilst Indian quisine is of course available, British guests will be considerately catered for if spicy food is not to their liking. Acting as their agent for the UK, any booking made through me is made direct with the owner, thus funds go directly to the local people who own and run it, there is no middle-man and no corporate profit made by anyone other than the resort itself. A stay at Tigerland Resort on full-board basis is also fully inclusive of morning and afternoon game-drives into Kanha Tiger Reserve, and transport by rail or air to and from Kanha from Delhi or Mumbai can also be aranged.
